My grandma's pie crust recipe fell apart on me last Sunday

I tried to make my grandma's famous apple pie for a family dinner, but the crust crumbled into pieces when I rolled it out. I think I used too much butter or maybe the water was too cold, I'm not sure which. Ended up just pressing it into the pan like a tart, and it still tasted okay but looked nothing like hers. Has anyone else had a family recipe fail on them and figured out what went wrong?

Oh honey, my family recipes have failed so many times I should start a contest. Last Christmas my great aunt's cookies came out looking like sad little hockey pucks.

You ever have one of those days where even your grandma's foolproof recipe turns into a disaster? I swear baking is 90% luck and 10% skill, and my luck runs out fast. Solidarity from someone who's made more kitchen failures than I care to count.

Those hockey puck cookies cracked me up because I've been there too. My grandma's sugar cookie recipe is supposed to be the easiest thing in the world, but I somehow turned it into a batch of salty, flat discs that wouldn't even break if you threw them at the wall. It's like the recipe knows when you're feeling too confident and decides to humble you real quick. Maybe baking is actually 50% science, 50% secret grandma magic that skips a generation sometimes. I'm convinced half these recipes work only because grandma is standing right there whispering encouragement. Solidarity right back at you, at least we can eat our mistakes while we cry about them.
