My grandma's pie crust went from tough to perfect after one simple change
For years, her apple pie crust was always a bit hard, but last Thanksgiving she told me she started using ice cold vodka instead of some of the water. She got the tip from a cooking show in 2019. The crust is now so flaky and light, it's a whole different dessert. Has anyone else tried a swap like that in a family baking recipe?

Vodka in pie crust? Seems a bit extra.

My grandma used to add a splash of vinegar to her pie dough for the same reason. It's one of those old kitchen tricks that sounds weird but just works. I see it everywhere now, like using mayo instead of butter on a grilled cheese to get it crispy. People call it a hack, but it's really just a smarter way to do a simple thing.

Seems a bit extra" is what I thought too, but it actually works. I tried it last Thanksgiving because my crusts were always tough. The vodka makes the dough easier to roll out without getting hard. You get these little flaky pockets where the alcohol cooked off. It sounds fancy but it just fixed my problem.
