My hot take: Canned soup is the heart of our family stew recipe

Everyone acts like everything needs to be fresh, but my dad's beef stew starts with a can of tomato soup. It brings back memories of cold nights when he'd stir the pot and say the secret was in the simplicity. I honestly believe that shortcut gives it a cozy, familiar taste that from-scratch broths can't match. We'd always laugh about how 'gourmet' we felt eating it with cheap bread.

So we're just admitting our family secrets come from Campbell's now?

I saw in a Taste of Home article that like 60% of so-called "family secret" casseroles are just the recipe from the back of a cream of mushroom soup can. @wendy391 is totally right to call it out. My grandma's famous green bean thing is literally on the Campbell's website. It feels like we all agreed to pretend we didn't know. The real family secret is which brand of soup mix you used.

Relax, it's just casserole, and @wendy391 knows it still tastes good.
