Hot take: that 'quick' quarter crack fix in a draft horse took me 4 hours yesterday

Was working on a big Belgian in Redmond. The crack looked straightforward, but the hoof wall was way more brittle than I thought. My usual bar shoe and acrylic just wouldn't hold. Ended up having to do a full resection and a heart bar, which I haven't done in ages. Anyone else get totally blindsided by a hoof's condition like that?

That Belgian in Redmond probably just needed a better trim before the shoe. A full resection sounds like overkill for a simple quarter crack. Sometimes we make the job harder than it has to be.

Ugh, been there. Quarter cracks can totally lie to you until you're in the middle of it.

Tell me about it, they look fine until you're suddenly dealing with a huge problem. I mean, you think you've got it handled and then it just blows up. Makes you second guess every little thing you see.
