I used to think a 4 point trim was the only way to go, but after a bad case of quarter cracks on a horse in Spokane, I switched to a 3 point and never looked back.

Had the same stubborn belief until a nasty bout of thrush made me switch to a three point trim.

My cousin's farrier swears by a four point trim for horses with weak heels.

Yeah, thrush will change your mind real fast. I was the same way, stuck on a method until the horse's feet told me it was wrong. That three point trim just lets the heel spread and breathe like it needs to. Sometimes you gotta see the problem up close to drop the old ideas.
