My worst Monday in 10 years of shoeing horses
Last fall I had a day where nothing went right. First horse I worked on was a big draft cross that kept leaning on me, pulled a muscle in my back trying to hold him up. Second horse had a hoof abscess I didn't catch until I started trimming, got puss all over my apron. Third call was a mare that kicked the wall so hard she cracked a board in the stall, owner was yelling at me like it was my fault. By the time I got to the fourth horse I was exhausted and my back was killing me. That one had a nail bend on me inside the hoof wall, had to pull the shoe and start over with a whole new set. Ended the day with my truck battery dead because I left the lights on while working. Anyone else have a string of bad luck like that or was I just cursed that day?

Nothing worse than a nail bend to cap off a cursed day.

Ugh that "cursed day" feeling is the worst. When a nail bends I just grab a new one every time now, no fighting it. Trying to hammer the bent one straight always makes the day ten times longer.

Oh man that sounds like a total nightmare of a day! I had one last summer where I showed up to a clients house and their dog had gotten into the feed room overnight, so there was cracked corn and sweet feed all over the stall I was supposed to work in. Took me 20 minutes just to clean it up enough to not be dangerous. Then the horse was acting fine until I picked up his back foot and he kicked me right in the thigh, I had a bruise the size of a dinner plate for two weeks.
