That week in August when every horse seemed to have a hoof wall separation

I had three different clients in the same week, all with quarter horses, and every one of them had a major hoof wall separation at the quarter. It was weird, like a bad trend. The worst was a big paint gelding named Gus, his was almost an inch long. I spent hours with the nippers and rasp just trying to get a clean edge to work with. Has anyone else seen a run of this specific issue lately?

Did the sky just forget how to be normal this year or what?

That "bad trend" you saw with the hoof walls. It's not just horses. @the_elliot is onto something with the weather question. We had a super wet spring then a sudden, hard dry spell. I see it everywhere now. My own fence posts are splitting in the same weird way. Everything just seems brittle and coming apart at the seams this year. It's like the ground itself is stressed and it's showing up in everything standing on it.
