Watching a team at the Calgary Stampede, I saw them use a modified rasp handle that looked way more comfortable.
It was a thick, rubber grip wrapped around the tang, and the farrier said it cut his hand fatigue in half after a long day of corrective work.

That's a solid upgrade. I always thought the standard rasp handle was a bit of a killer on the palm after a while. Wrapping the tang makes total sense to spread out the pressure. It's one of those simple fixes you see and just wonder why it isn't the normal way already. That farrier is smart for making the change.

Oh man, this whole thread is hitting home. I used to get these awful blisters right at the base of my fingers from a bare tang. I tried that inner tube trick a few years back and it was a total game changer. It's crazy how such a cheap fix solves a problem that makes the work so much harder. You really don't notice how much that pressure wears on you until it's gone.

A thick bike inner tube works just as well for a cheap grip. You cut a length and slide it right over the tang. It gives you that same cushion without adding much bulk. The rubber has enough give to soften the pressure but still keeps a solid grip. It's held up through a whole season of work for me. That farrier is right, it makes a huge difference by the end of the day.
