Hot take: I spent 3 hours on a jacket mock-up only to realize the fabric was completely wrong.

I was so focused on the pattern that I didn't test how the heavy canvas would drape. Now the whole silhouette is stiff and boxy, not the relaxed look I sketched. Has anyone else had a project derailed by a fabric choice that seemed right on the bolt?

Ugh, @sullivan.spencer, that reminds me of the time I made a whole dress from "breathable cotton" that just soaked up sweat like a sponge.

Spent a whole weekend making pants from what I thought was a nice linen blend. Turns out it was basically burlap with a marketing team. Wore them once and they could stand up by themselves in the corner, scratchy as all get out. Had to just throw the whole project in the donate pile, a total waste of time.

Actually that scratchy linen might soften up after a few more washes. Some of my favorite fabrics started out pretty stiff. You might have given up on them too soon.
