Rant: tried making a corset top from scratch without a pattern and it was a disaster

I spent like 5 hours last Saturday cutting and stitching a corset top from some $12 fabric I got at Joann in Austin. No pattern, just my dumb measurements and a dream. The whole thing ended up lopsided and the boning channels were all crooked. I looked like a deflated balloon wearing it. Why does everyone online make it look so easy? Has anyone else totally botched a DIY project this bad?

Blew up a pair of jeans trying to turn them into a tote bag last month. The seams gave out the second I put my water bottle inside and everything fell out in the parking lot. Thought I was being clever but instead I was just walking out of Target holding a water bottle with ripped denim around it.

Feel you @david562, but leaning into failure only works if you actually learn something instead of repeating the same mistake twice.
