Shoutout to my old drafting teacher who made us do everything by hand

I used to hate it, but after a year of just using CAD, I went back to sketching on paper first and my designs got way more fluid. Anyone else find that starting analog helps you think differently?

Totally agree about starting analog. It forces you to slow down and actually think through the problem.

The guy I apprenticed under made me draw the same bracket three times on vellum before he let me touch a computer. Turns out that muscle memory of drafting by hand helped me spot interference issues before they ever got to the CAM software. My first week on a CNC lathe I caught a toolpath problem that would've scrapped a $200 part just because I could visualize the clearance differently.
