Stuck between two fabric choices for a jacket lining

I was making a fall jacket and had to pick between a plain black satin or this wild, patterned silk I found in a shop on Queen Street. I went with the silk, and now the inside is more interesting than the outside, which feels like a fun secret. Anyone have a good trick for making a bold lining feel intentional and not just random?

Did you pre-wash that silk? Most of those Queen Street shop fabrics aren't ready for the washer and can shrink like crazy.

That's a clever idea from your friend. Did you consider adding a small detail like a silk-covered button on the cuff or a pocket flap facing in that same wild fabric? It would give just another tiny peek of the lining and make the whole thing feel really connected.

My friend did something like that with a coat she made, she used this crazy floral lining. She ended up picking one color from the pattern and using it for the top-stitching thread on all the outside seams. It tied everything together in a way that looked totally planned, like the lining gave her a hint for the outside details.
