Update: I was sketching silhouettes for months before a client in Portland asked for a 'wearable sculpture' and I finally got it.

Honestly, I'd been treating the human form like a blank canvas instead of the actual structure the whole piece hangs on, which hit me when she said her coat felt like a costume, not clothes.

Maybe it's just me but @rodriguez.felix's jacket sounds cool even if it's a bit much. Not everything needs to be super practical.

That "costume, not clothes" line is EVERYTHING. We build so many things around people without remembering the person has to live inside them.

Oh man, that hits home! I bought this super cool jacket last year that makes me look like a movie character. Problem is, I can't actually move my arms to, you know, drive or grab stuff off a shelf. I feel like a fancy action figure that's been left in the box. I wanted to look interesting, but I forgot I also need to be a person who does things.
