Fence lines look way different now than they did 15 years ago
I was driving through an old neighborhood I used to work in back in 2009 and noticed almost every fence back then was chain link with trees growing right through it. Now those same yards have vinyl privacy panels or cedar slats, no trees near them at all. Has anyone else seen this shift in their area or is it just the city I'm in?

Lived through this exact change in my own neighborhood. Back then everyone had chain link because it was cheap and you could just staple it to trees if you wanted. Now people are ripping out trees just to put up those tall vinyl privacy panels. The wild part is nobody talks about how much harder it is to maintain those new fences. With chain link you could just hose it off or patch a hole in 10 minutes. One storm takes out a vinyl panel and you're hunting for the exact color match or replacing the whole thing. Plus that solid privacy blocks airflow and makes backyards feel like hot boxes in summer.

Wait do you ever wonder if the chain link people just had better priorities all along? My neighbor spent last weekend power washing his vinyl fence only to find a crack running down the whole panel from a stray baseball hit two summers ago. Meanwhile my old chain link has a dent from a falling branch that I just bent back with a hammer in about five minutes. The trees we lost around here for those privacy walls used to keep the whole block cooler too.
