Learning that 3 degree slope on a 6 foot privacy fence makes a huge difference for water runoff

I set a gate post without checking level last month and ended up with a 2 inch gap at the bottom when it rained. Now I always throw a cheap angle finder in my truck before I start digging.

Wait wait wait. You're telling me 3 degrees actually does something measurable? I always figured that was just one of those things people say to sound smart on forums. Now I gotta go check my whole fence line.

Nah man, 3 degrees is REAL. I've seen it mess up a whole run of fence panels cause somebody was off by that much on a single post. Check it with a level and a string line, you'll see the difference a few degrees makes over 50 feet.

My neighbor built his whole deck off by about 2 degrees and now his grill sits on a slope. Makes a hot dog roll right off the plate. You might want to grab a coffee before you walk that fence line, could be a long afternoon.
