People keep telling me to skip the home inspection to make my offer stronger

My realtor in Charlotte said it's a common move, but I saw a friend buy a house last year and skip it. They found out six months later the whole HVAC system needed replacing, costing them over eight thousand dollars. I'm not willing to gamble that much money just to win a bid. Has anyone else stood firm on getting an inspection and still had their offer accepted?

Honestly it feels like a bigger trend where people skip basic checks for speed. Like signing up for a phone plan without reading the fine print, or clicking "agree" on software updates. Everyone's in such a rush to get the deal done that the big problems get missed until later. A home inspection is just the grown-up version of checking the car's engine before you buy it used. Skipping it to look good is just asking for a nasty surprise.

Yikes, my friend skipped the inspection to make their offer faster. They found out AFTER closing that the whole roof was basically rotten. Cost them over twenty grand out of pocket to replace it. That "win" on the house price turned into a total nightmare.

Oh man, DO NOT skip that inspection! I was in the same spot last spring and my agent pushed hard to waive it. I said absolutely not. We found out the sewer line from the house to the street was completely broken and needed a $12,000 fix. The sellers had to drop the price to cover it. I still got the house and slept soundly knowing I wasn't buying a money pit. It is a huge gamble to skip.
