I finally bought a laser level for tile work and it was worth every penny
I spent about $350 on a decent rotary laser level about three months ago. I was doing a big kitchen floor with large format tile and kept having trouble keeping my lines straight over the whole room. The laser let me set a perfect reference line across the entire space in under a minute. It cut my layout time in half and the final floor looks way better, with no lippage. I used to think they were a luxury, but now I won't start a tile job without it. For those who use them, do you have a favorite brand or model that holds up on site?

Wow, I guess my old string-and-chalk method is officially retired now!

Retire it to the museum next to the hand drill. My grandpa still swears by chalk lines, but he also thinks a spirit level is fancy tech. Lasers don't get tired or sneeze and mess up your mark. Watching that guy work would probably give him a heart attack.

Saw a video where a guy was doing a huge bathroom with those long subway tiles. He used a laser to keep every single row dead straight from one wall to the other. The lines were so perfect it looked like a machine did it. That's when it clicked for me how much time those things must save. No more stopping every few feet to check a level.
