Our crew is split over letting new guys handle the finish work

I mean, half the team thinks it's the best way for them to learn and gain confidence. But the other half worries about callbacks if the edges aren't clean or the seams show. We had a job last month where a rookie's trim piece left a gap, and the homeowner noticed. Maybe it's just me, but I see both sides. How do you all handle this?

Disagree, the buddy system just creates dependency, not skill.

Yeah, we went through that exact thing. Our fix was to start new guys on a buddy system for finish details. They’d do the work, but one of the experienced hands would check it right after, before we called it done. That way they learn by doing, but the final product has a second set of eyes. It slowed things down a bit at first, but the callbacks dropped to almost zero and the new guys got way better, faster.

That's a great way to build good habits early.
