Can we talk about how much better cheap grocery store bouquets look after 48 hours?

Honestly I used to turn my nose up at those $8 bunches from Publix. Then my cooler went down during a heatwave last June and I grabbed a few to get through a rush. I tossed them in a bucket with some flower food and gave them a good trim. After two days they opened up way more than I expected and stayed fresh for almost a week. Has anyone else found a trick to make those budget stems last longer for emergency use?

Yep, I had the same experience. Picked up a $6 bundle from the grocery store on a whim and was shocked how much they opened up after a day or two. A little patience really does turn those tight buds into something halfway decent.

Not convinced on the warm water trick, that seems like a good way to end up with limp stems. A sharp cut and cool water with some flower food has always worked better for me, even on the cheapest grocery store bunches. The real secret is changing that water every day, that alone makes cheap flowers last twice as long.

Water and a clean cut make more difference than any fancy florist trick. Let them sit in warm water for an hour before trimming and they perk right up. Cheap bouquets just need a tiny bit of love to look expensive.
