Customer said my arrangements looked "too store-bought" - changed my whole approach
This older lady at the farmer's market told me my bouquets looked like they came from a grocery store. She said they were too perfect and didn't have enough wild feel to them. I started leaving stems uneven and mixing in more native grasses - has anyone else gotten feedback that made you rethink your style?

Yeah, the "too store-bought" thing hits on a bigger pattern I've noticed. People are getting tired of anything that looks too polished or mass produced, whether it's flowers, furniture, or even how someone decorates their house. There's this whole swing back toward things looking handmade or naturally put together, even if it's a little rough around the edges. I think that's why you see so much raw wood, chipped paint, and uneven shapes in home stuff now too. It's like people want proof a human actually touched it, not a machine stamped it out.

Hold up though, "too store-bought" doesn't mean you were doing it wrong. It just means she wanted a more natural, foraged look rather than the tight, rounded arrangements you'd see at a supermarket. I actually started leaving more gaps between stems and letting some of the flower heads face different directions to catch the eye, that really helped.

My florist buddy showed me this trick: cut stems at different angles so they naturally twist apart as you place them. It breaks up that perfect grid look without having to fight the stems. Now when I do arrangements I just let the flowers fall where they want and trust the gaps.
