Finally figured out how to get those stubborn ranunculus stems to drink after a full day of trial and error.

I tried warm water, cutting underwater, floral preservative, and even a light hammer crush, but the trick was a 30-second dip in near-boiling water before putting them in the vase, which I only found after watching a tutorial from a grower in Oregon.

Glad it worked for you. I swear by that trick now, it's like a cheat code for flowers. My last bunch looked so good my neighbor asked if they were fake. Almost felt bad telling her the secret was basically aspirin and vodka.

My aunt used to swear by a splash of lemon-lime soda in the vase water. It always seemed to work for her peonies, but I could never get the ratio right. Maybe some tricks are just meant for certain people.
