Honestly, I thought those flower food packets were just a gimmick

Tbh, I never gave them to customers because I figured fresh water was enough. Then my aunt's roses from my shop wilted in two days, but the ones from the grocery store with the packet lasted over a week. I started including them with every order from my shop in Charlotte about six months ago, and now I get way fewer calls about flowers dying fast. Has anyone else had a client change their mind on something basic like this?

My local florist in Asheville told me they did a side by side test last year. The flowers with the packet lasted almost three days longer on average. It's not just sugar, it has stuff to lower the water's pH and fight bacteria. I was totally skeptical too, but that convinced me. Now I always ask for the packet if I buy flowers.

My shop in Raleigh stopped using them years ago to cut costs. We just change the water every other day and trim the stems, and our bouquets still last a full week for most folks.

Look, changing water every other day is a lot of work and most people just won't do it. They forget. The packet does that job for them by keeping the water clean. I've seen the difference on my own kitchen counter, plain water gets cloudy and smelly fast. That packet fights the gunk that makes stems rot. For the average person who just wants pretty flowers, it's a simple fix that actually works.
