Switched my cooler water from tap to filtered and my roses lasted a full 9 days
I used to just fill my flower buckets straight from the sink, you know, like most of us do. My standard red roses would start to droop by day 5, maybe 6 if I was lucky. Last month, I got a simple filter for my shop's water line, just to see. The difference is crazy. Those same roses from my same supplier are now holding strong for over a week, with firm stems and open blooms. It must be something in our city water (maybe chlorine?) that was shortening vase life. Has anyone else tested this, or is there a better trick for treating bucket water?

Actually, it's probably the fluoride more than the chlorine doing that. Fluoride is really tough on some flowers. A little lemon juice in the tap water can sometimes help neutralize it.

Oh great, so my flowers are getting a free dental plan from the tap water? Thanks for the tip @williamb29, guess I'm buying lemons now.

Wait, so is that why my peace lily started getting those weird brown crispy tips last year? I was using straight tap water for months before I switched to leaving a jug out overnight.
