I was lining up at food trucks all wrong for years

Last week at the Portland Saturday Market, I saw a guy walk straight to the front of a huge line at 'Bao Down', order, and get his food in under five minutes. I asked him how, and he said he checked their social media story before coming. They posted a QR code for pre-orders that morning, which I never look at. I always just show up and wait, sometimes for 30 minutes. Now I check Instagram before I head out. Does anyone else have a food truck hack like that?

Checking social media before you go just turns eating into another chore. I saw what @shane_fisher37 said about group texts, but that's more noise on my phone. The whole point of a food truck is to just show up, wait your turn, and get something good. That five minute wait you described sounds like you're just picking up a to-go order, not part of the market experience. Sometimes the line is where you chat with people and actually relax for a minute instead of staring at your screen.

Honestly, you're both acting like this is some huge life choice. It's a food truck. If I'm hungry and see a line, I'll wait or I won't. Making a whole plan around it just feels like extra work for a sandwich.

Man, that line about waiting 30 minutes hit home. I've wasted so much lunch breaks just standing there. I started following my favorite trucks on one of those group texting apps, they send out where they'll be parked each day. Saves a ton of driving around looking for them.
