Found a 1973 grocery list in a cookbook and it completely changed how I see old books

Found a letter from the 50s tucked in a library book once. It was just a note about a sewing pattern. Made the whole book feel different, like it had a secret life. Those little bits of paper are the best part of buying used. They're proof someone else held it and used it for their own stuff. Turns an object into a story.

Bit of a stretch to call that a story though.

You said "proof someone else held it" - but what if the note's just junk, does that still count as a story?
