Found a love letter from 1943 tucked in a library book last night

I was skeptical about checking the pockets of old library books but snagged a copy of 'The Grapes of Wrath' at the thrift store for 50 cents and found a folded letter inside. Turned out some guy named Charlie wrote to his girl Martha saying he'd be home from training camp in two weeks with a ring. Anyone else ever find something that felt like a little time capsule?

Ngl that's kind of sweet but also super creepy to read someone else's private love letter from a stranger. I'd probably just toss it back in the book and pretend I never saw it.

Ripping out the note is like saying love doesn't belong in a used book. It's what makes finding a random novel feel like a treasure hunt instead of a transaction.

Read an article last month about a guy who found a 20-year-old note in a copy of "The Hobbit" that led him to track down the original owner. Ended up being some professor's daughter who wrote it to her high school sweetheart. @rileyb61 has a point that those notes give books a second life. I always flip through the first few pages of any used book I buy just to see if there's anything written inside. Found a grocery list once in a cookbook, which was way more entertaining than the recipes themselves.
