My aunt told me to always check the back pages of a used book before buying it, and last week I found a 1982 divorce decree tucked in a cookbook at the Goodwill in Akron.

I almost didn't look, but there it was, a whole legal document with two names I'll never know, and now I can't stop thinking about the story behind it, has anyone else found something that heavy just sitting on a shelf?

My buddy found a whole, handwritten apology letter in a thrift store jacket pocket. He still has it, says it felt too personal to just throw away.

That letter probably ate at someone for years.

That bit about finding a whole legal document is wild. It reminds me of buying a used toolbox at a garage sale. I got it home and found a stack of old, faded photos tucked under the removable tray. Just random people at what looked like a picnic, smiling. No names, no dates. Threw them out, but it felt weird, like tossing someone's proof they existed.
