Debated between a 4lb sledge and a 2lb hammer for knocking out core sand on castings at work
Spent about 6 months using a 4lb sledge for cleaning out cores on iron castings. Thought hitting harder meant faster work. But after a guy named Mike at the shop in Flint pointed out I was bruising my wrist and cracking too many thin walls, I switched to a 2lb drilling hammer. Took me 2 weeks to get used to it but the cracks dropped by half. Has anyone else found that lighter tools sometimes give you better control on tricky cores?

Drilling hammer doesn't really hit like a sledge though, different swing.

Yo ever have one of those days where you're just swinging too hard and everything goes wrong? I did the same thing on some cast iron brackets once, muscle memory told me to go big but all I got was a pile of scrap and a tired arm. Once I dropped down to a lighter hammer the control was night and day, less fatigue too.
