I think the old way of patching a ladle lining is still better than the new spray stuff
Had a ladle start to weep at the spout joint yesterday afternoon during a pour for a big gear blank order. The new refractory spray they gave us last month just washed right off after about 20 minutes. I had to shut it down, let it cool enough to be safe, and ram in a proper patch of the old plastic chrome mix by hand. It took an extra hour, but it held for the rest of the shift. Has anyone else had the spray fail on a hot repair like that?

Honestly same thing happened at our place last week. That spray just turns to dust on a hot ladle lip.

Yeah, right? Saw @williamm82's post too. Some of this stuff just can't take the heat.

Our new spray guy swears by his stuff but it peeled off a tundish like a bad sunburn.
