I was wrong about using a 2% silicon mix for our gray iron castings at the plant in Dayton.

Remember my buddy who swore by a 3% mix? His whole batch ended up like brittle chocolate... total scrap.

Yeah that's rough. My last batch cracked too until I dropped it down to just under 2.5. Much smoother now.

Oof, that 3% mistake hits close to home! I once got overconfident and pushed a mix way too high, thinking more must be better. Ended up with a whole tray that shattered if you looked at it wrong. Learned the hard way that subtlety is key, and now I measure twice like my sanity depends on it.
