Our shop switched from a manual sand rammer to a pneumatic one about four months ago.

The difference in mold density is night and day, and we're seeing way fewer casting defects from soft molds. Anyone else made a similar equipment upgrade recently?

Wait, you guys were still using a manual rammer? That's brutal on the arms. How many molds were you making per shift before the switch?

Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy's shop. They held out on upgrading for years, said the old way built character. Then one guy got tennis elbow so bad he was out for a month. They got a pneumatic rammer and it was like a miracle. The molds were so much more solid, way less scrap metal. I get what @jessica_robinson23 means about control for small stuff, but for their main line it saved them.

Manual ramming has its place for smaller runs or complex cores, @the_simon. The control can actually be better than a pneumatic tool on some jobs. It's not always just about speed.
