Remember when we had to eyeball the pour temperature on the old cupola furnace back in '05?

Now the digital readout on our new induction unit gives it to the degree, which cut our scrap rate from about 8% down to under 2% in just a year. Anyone else miss the old feel but can't argue with the numbers?

Yeah, I miss the old feel... but my scrap rate misses it a lot more than I do.

What changed with the scrap rate?

Notice how the scrap rate jumped right after the switch to the new supplier last quarter. Did they change the alloy mix or the heat treatment on the raw stock? My guess is they're cutting corners on material quality to hit a lower price point.
