Spent 6 hours chasing a porosity problem in my cast iron yesterday

Turned out my sand was just 2% too damp and it took me half the shift to figure that out, anyone else ever waste a whole day on something that stupid?

2% off and it takes six hours to catch that. That's brutal. Did the sand feel super heavy in the muller or were the castings just blowing gas in a weird spot? I've had green sand that was a little too wet make a bunch of pinholes near the thick sections but never that long to figure out. What were the castings you were running, engine blocks or something smaller?

Funny how that works. Same pattern everywhere. Grocery store runs, home repairs, work stuff. By the time you notice something's off you're already six hours deep.

Yeah @hugomurray I gotta push back a little here. Six hours to catch 2% off sounds like a communication breakdown more than a sand problem. Could be they just didn't have a good check system in place, nobody watching the muller close enough.
