The new guy tried to cool a mold with a garden hose
We had a trainee, Kyle, start at our shop in Akron about six months ago. He was super eager, but on his second day, he saw a hot sand mold and ran to grab a garden hose from outside. He was about to spray it down right there on the floor before our foreman, Dave, literally tackled him. Dave just yelled, 'You wanna make a steam bomb, kid?'. We all cracked up, but it was a close call. Anyone else have a story about a new hire's wild idea that almost went really wrong?

What did he think was gonna happen, instant cold castings? Thank god Dave was faster than Kyle's bright ideas, that could've taken out a wall. Kid probably thought he was watering a really hot plant. At least it makes for a good story now, but man, some people just don't get how metal works.

My cousin tried that with a car engine once.

Hey, maybe he was just trying to cool it down faster!

Kyle's lucky Dave was paying attention, that could've been a real mess. I'm with viola_ward, some folks just don't get how dangerous that steam can be. My uncle worked in a foundry and said the new guy stories were always the wildest.
