A lot of new freelancers are setting their rates based on what they need to live, not what the work is worth
I see this all the time in online groups. Someone will say they charge $30 an hour because that's what they need to pay rent. I did the same thing when I started three years ago. The problem is clients don't care about your bills, they care about the value you bring. I raised my graphic design rates to $85 an hour after a client told me my work helped increase their sales. Now I get better projects. How did you figure out what to charge when you were starting out?

Honestly, I get that logic but starting with what you need can be a solid base. It's how you learn to value your time.

Remember when we all thought charging by the hour was the smart move? That system falls apart the second you get fast at your job.

Totally, that's how I finally raised my rates.
