Vent: I thought cold emailing was a total waste of time for getting freelance work

For my first year freelancing in Chicago, I refused to send cold emails, thinking they were just spam. Last month, I got desperate and sent 20 personalized emails to local design agencies. I spent about an hour on each one, mentioning a specific project of theirs I liked. One agency owner actually replied, saying 'Your note was the only one that didn't feel like a copy-paste job.' That turned into a $2,500 project. So, is cold emailing a legit tool if you do it right, or is it still mostly just annoying people? What's your take?

It's basically just networking but with less pants.

Hey @emmawood, that's the best job description I've ever heard.

I used to think networking was all stiff handshakes and awkward small talk. But Emma's right, it's way better when you can just be yourself. That actually makes me want to go to more events.
