My boss insisted we stick with a single carrier for our Chicago route, but switching to a regional LTL specialist cut our average transit time from 5 days to 3.

What's your take on carrier loyalty versus always hunting for the best lane-specific rate and service?

That Chicago example is a perfect case for using specialists. Blind loyalty to one carrier for every lane just leaves money and time on the table.

Right? How many times have you seen a company stick with the same big name carrier for a tricky city run just because they always have. You end up paying way too much for a driver who doesn't know the back routes or the best docks. I got burned on a Philly route years ago by not using a local guy who knew the market.

Atlanta's another city that proves the point.
