Appreciation post: My $80 dehumidifier for the shop was a total game changer
I was fighting blush in my lacquer finishes every single summer for years. Last July, I finally bought a small dehumidifier for my 400-square-foot shop space. It cost about $80. The difference was instant. I haven't had a single cloudy finish since I started running it for an hour before I spray. Humidity here in Ohio can get brutal. Has anyone else found a good fix for summer humidity besides just adding retarder?

Oh man, "humidity here can get brutal" is so true. It reminds me of trying to glue up a tabletop last August. The wood felt damp to the touch and nothing wanted to set right. I ended up having to run a space heater in the middle of summer just to drive the moisture out of the air, which was its own kind of misery. That sticky feeling just gets into everything.

Running a space heater in August sounds like a special circle of hell. My old apartment had a window unit that just blew damp, lukewarm air back at you. I'd come home and my mail on the counter would feel like it had been lightly misted.

Ugh, that sounds awful, @abbyg60. Humidity just ruins everything... I had a similar thing happen with a batch of cookies last summer. They turned out so sad and chewy, like they were steamed instead of baked. My hair was a complete frizz ball that whole month too... it's like the air turns into soup. Makes you want to just live in the freezer section until October.
