Reading an old trade magazine and the lead content in paint surprised me

I was flipping through a stack of 'American Painting Contractor' magazines from the 70s at a garage sale in Cincinnati... found an article saying some paints back then had over 50% lead by weight. I knew it was high, but seeing that number in print, from when they were still selling it, really hit different. Makes you think about every old piece we strip down to bare wood... anyone else come across old specs that made you pause?

Oh man, that's a wild number to see in print. It's like they were building houses and poisoning kids at the same time, a real two-for-one special. Yeah, it lasted forever because it was basically a toxic metal shell. Makes you wonder what stuff we're using now that people in 50 years will be horrified by.

I saw a house in Cleveland where the dust tested at 40,000 micrograms. @angela687 is right, it's the lasting forever part that really gets you.
