Update: My local cafes are all using hand-drawn fonts on their menus.

Practicing hand lettering has boosted my creativity for logo designs.

How cool is it that hand-drawn fonts are everywhere now? Tbh, it's inspiring to see cafes put in that effort. I remember this bakery near me that has a menu with shaky, imperfect letters, and it feels so welcoming. Working on your own lettering must really open up new ideas for logos. Honestly, seeing that stuff in the wild makes me want to pick up a pen too. It's a nice reminder that creativity doesn't have to be perfect.

That bakery memory reminds me of a place that clearly traced a font from online and called it hand-lettered. You could still see the pencil marks under the paint. Kind of funny how the try-hard ones feel less welcoming than a truly wobbly sign some teenager drew for minimum wage. Makes you wonder if the real charm comes from the lack of corporate approval, not just the look.

Notice how those hand-drawn menus make a five dollar coffee feel more justifiable. There's a whole psychology where imperfect lettering signals "artisanal" and "care," which lets shops charge a bit more for the same items. I wonder if this style is partly a smart business move, not just an artistic one. Have you seen prices creep up alongside the chalkboard trend?
