From my seat: Digital daily logs are making our job quieter
Lately, I've seen more sites using tablets for daily equipment checks. Instead of shouting across the pit, guys just tap screens. It speeds up morning starts, but we don't chat as much. Last week, a new guy missed a loose track because he was focused on the app. Now, I make a point to walk over and talk after logging. It feels like we're trading teamwork for tech sometimes. What's your site doing?

Totally get that, and @the_jessica nailed it about losing the shared look. My site logs on the tablet then we still walk the gear together after.

Honestly new tech always makes things a bit quiet at first. Tbh if a guy missed a loose track because of a screen, that's on him not looking, not the tablet. We used paper logs for years and people still messed up checks. Sounds like your site just needs to mix the old talk with the new tap. Good gear and good talk aren't a trade, you just gotta make both happen.

Wondering if the apps make us act alone even in a group, like @bennett.phoenix said it's on the guy, but the tech removed his reason to call someone over for a second look. That shared moment is how we catch the easy misses.
