Gutter cleaning sparked a thought on ancient water systems

I was clearing leaves from my gutters and it hit me. The Indus Valley civilization had advanced drains, but no one knows exactly how they built them so well. It's a puzzle that historians still talk about. Now I look at rain runoff in my yard with more respect for old solutions.

Yeah, gutter duty always makes me think about old school engineering too. Our modern stuff feels so basic compared to what they built back then.

But is old engineering always better? Those historic stone gutters crack every winter and need constant repairs. Modern PVC might look simple, but it handles rain for years without leaking. We remember the big old projects but forget how often they broke down. Sometimes basic new stuff just works better with less hassle.
