My old one used to do that every time I made chili, it's the worst. Finally got a new one last month and it hasn't happened since. Maybe the seal on the lid was just worn out.

Did you try replacing just the rubber seal? My cooker is about five years old and started doing that last fall. Got a new seal online for like twelve bucks and it's been fine since.

Check the pressure release valve for clogs.
