My neighbor's misdelivered tax documents led to a filing label system
Last April I got a neighbor's IRS envelope twice in one week, so I wrote their house number in big marker on the inside of my mailbox lid. Now I check that before opening anything, and it saved me from mailing back my own bank statement that got swapped at the same time. Anyone else mark their box up like that?
Man, that is such a smart move. I had the same thing happen with a water bill that belonged to the people two doors down. Now I just flip the envelope over and squint at the address before I rip it open. Writing your own house number inside the lid is dead simple and takes two seconds. Way easier than walking stuff back down the street in the rain.
