The cheese slice on apple pie revelation happened at a diner

Grew up thinking sweet pie meant no cheese, period. Then a waitress at a small Ohio diner slid over a slice with cheddar on top and said "trust me on this." Turns out the salt cuts the sugar in a way I'd been missing for 28 years. Anyone else have a combo they fought for ages before giving in?
