I finally stopped skipping the pre-drive soil assessment after a hilariously wobbly foundation.
Tbh, the foreman's face when the pile leaned was worth the extra five minutes.

Yeah, the foreman's face is entertaining until you're the one explaining the lean to the client. @victor_jones99 isn't wrong about the soil issues, but some lessons stick better after a little wobble.

Tbh, I read this deep dive on a construction forum about that Florida subdivision that started sinking. They totally glossed over the soil compaction phase to meet deadlines, and now the foundations are literally shifting. One homeowner said her doors won't close properly anymore. That's way more than a funny story for the foreman.

Respectfully, I have to challenge the idea that a foreman's surprise is worth skipping crucial steps. A wobbly foundation points to serious soil issues that could lead to catastrophic failure, not just a funny moment. Are we in the business of building safely or collecting anecdotes? Those five minutes are a fundamental part of the job, not an optional courtesy. Treating them as anything less undermines the entire purpose of doing the work correctly.
