Vent: I used to think square footage was the main deal.
Now I know layout and flow matter more.

Square footage had me fooled for years. Then I rented a cottage with a clever layout that felt huge. The way rooms open into each other makes all the difference.

Wait, you only cared about the number before? The layout is everything. A big box with bad flow is just a maze.

Saw this exact thing house hunting in Austin last year. We toured a 2200 sq ft place that felt cramped because the kitchen was a dead end and the bedrooms were all weirdly separate. Then a 1800 sq ft open floor plan felt huge and easy to live in. It's a weird thing where bigger numbers trick you. I see it now with people who focus only on phone storage space or a job's salary number without seeing the whole setup. We get sold on the metric and miss how the thing actually works.
