Simple stretch I do to avoid knee pain after long days on pitched roofs

I do this calf and hamstring stretch before I head up on the roof. It takes two minutes and has really cut down on the ache in my knees by the end of the shift. Just hold onto something stable, bend one knee, and lean forward until you feel the stretch in the back of your leg. Do it for 30 seconds on each side, and you'll notice a difference.

My buddy who does siding had this same knee problem for years. He tried all sorts of things, but it was another roofer who finally showed him that exact stretch you’re talking about. He was pretty stubborn about adding anything to his routine, but the pain got bad enough that he gave it a shot. Now he swears by doing it right before he climbs the ladder every morning. He said it took about a week of being consistent to really feel the change, but his knees don’t get that deep throbbing ache anymore. It’s crazy how something so simple can make that big of a difference.

That week of daily stretching must have felt like a total insult to his years of stubborn suffering. You just know he was up on that ladder every morning, quietly fuming that the answer was that easy the whole time. Classic trades guy logic, where you'd rather chew on sandpaper than admit someone else's simple trick works. Honestly, it's a miracle our knees work at all given how long we all fight the obvious fixes.

Had the same deep ache in my knees from being on my feet all day. Started doing this hamstring stretch against a wall every night before bed, holding it for a solid minute on each side. After about a week, the constant throbbing just STOPPED. Felt ridiculous for not trying it sooner.
