I passed a job on Oak Road where the siding was butted tight to the trim. That's not how it's done!

My own house has that same thing on the back addition, and it’s been totally fine for like fifteen years. I mean, is it really a big deal if it’s not the textbook way? I see it all the time over in the Pine Crest subdivision too. Maybe it’s just me, but the house isn’t gonna fall down over some siding touching the trim.

Reading this makes me laugh because I once tried to 'fix' a gap with duct tape. Lasted about a month before the whole piece fell off. My neighbor still brings it up every time we talk about home projects. Guess I'm not the best judge of what holds up over time. But seeing your house fine for fifteen years does make me wonder if I just have bad luck with this stuff.

My buddy Jake had siding right against his trim just like that. Took five years before he found soft spots and mold in the wall behind it. The repair bill was way bigger than just doing the gap right the first time.
