Compromise by using his wild pattern in a small area, like a backsplash.

Totally, a small splash of that wild pattern can actually look really cool. You could even do just the kitchen hood or a single fireplace tile surround. I saw someone use a crazy geometric tile just inside their shower niche and it looked amazing. It stops the pattern from feeling too busy everywhere else but still lets you have fun with it.

Yeah the backsplash idea is smart. I've seen this a lot where one person loves a crazy tile. Using it just in a shower niche or on a single bathroom accent wall usually makes both people happy. It gives that pop without overwhelming the whole room. I mean, you still get to enjoy the pattern but it won't be something you regret later.
